A Unique Natural Sanctuary in the Caribbean
Los Haitises National Park is one of the most extraordinary ecosystems in the Dominican Republic. Located in Samaná Bay, this protected park spans more than 1,600 km² of mangroves, karst formations, and tropical rainforest.
Its name comes from the Taíno language and means 'high land,' referring to the vegetation-covered elevations that characterize this impressive natural landscape.
Montaña Redonda: breathtaking views
The excursion begins at Montaña Redonda, one of the country’s most famous viewpoints. From its summit, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view that includes lagoons, mountains, the Caribbean coast, and vast green fields.
This spot is perfect for taking spectacular photos and appreciating the vastness of the Dominican landscape.
Boat Tour of Samaná Bay
Later, from Sabana de la Mar, you’ll board a speedboat that will take you to the heart of Los Haitises National Park.
During the boat tour, you’ll see mangroves, estuaries, and tropical birds, many of which are endemic to the region.
Caves with Pre-Columbian Art
The park is home to some of the most important caves in the Caribbean from an archaeological perspective. Inside, you’ll find pictographs and petroglyphs created by the Taínos, the island’s original inhabitants before the arrival of Europeans.
These artistic expressions represent one of the country’s most valuable cultural heritages.
Nature in its purest form
Amid mogotes (conical rock formations), rainforest, and calm waters, the tour offers a variety of natural landscapes.
You’ll also take a hike to the Rancho Yanigua waterfall, where you can cool off, enjoy the natural surroundings, and even experience a natural mud bath, a local wellness tradition.
Local flavors and traditions
The day includes a tasting of coffee and cacao produced on local farms, allowing you to learn more about two of the region’s most iconic agricultural products.
You’ll also visit a blue amber mine—a semi-precious stone unique in the world and characteristic of the Dominican Republic.
Tarzan’s House and Final Lookout
Before the tour ends, you’ll visit the famous Tarzan’s House, a curious structure built high in a tree that has become one of the most photographed spots in the area.
The excursion concludes with a final panoramic stop, where you can once again take in the grandeur of the natural landscape before heading back to the hotel.
