Description
Skip the lines and explore Mitla, known as the 'Place of the Dead.' Discover a unique archaeological site famous for its intricate stone mosaics and symbolic design.
Step into Mitla, a remarkable Mixtec-Zapotec archaeological site renowned for its exceptionally preserved geometric stonework. As you walk through the ruins, learn why Mitla takes its name from Mictlan, the Nahuatl word for the underworld, and uncover its deep spiritual significance.
Once an important ceremonial center, Mitla features distinctive cross-shaped tombs, rows of imposing stone columns, and elevated chambers richly decorated with intricate patterns. These spaces were once used by Zapotec high priests and reflect the site’s role as a center of ritual and belief.
After exploring the ruins, stroll through the cactus garden within the archaeological park and enjoy the natural surroundings. Before leaving, visit the nearby craft market at the entrance, where local artisans offer traditional folk art and handmade goods.

A solid way to see Mexico City. Much appreciated that skip-the-line Entrance Ticket To Mitla is included. The only miss was no water available, especially in that heat. I would do it again anyway.

Just brilliant. We reached the hotel faster than the booking suggested. Seeing a bit of MixtecâZapotec on the way was a bonus. The driver pointed things out all the way to Zapotec. Booking was straightforward and confirmation came through instantly.

Cinco estrellas bien merecidas.

Almost perfect
Good, with ups and downs. Getting to Mitla Archeological Zone was breathtaking. Ideal if you want a day out of the city. For what is included, the price is more than fair. There were several of us and we could not get seats together. Worth it, knowing the above.
